Dubbed by the locals as wild men of the mountains, Yunnan Golden Monkeys make their home in the high-altitude, coniferous forest of southwest China. They group together to survive—sometimes as many as 300 can be found foraging for lichens together.
But the species is now endangered following years of habitat loss and illegal hunting that have fragmented their population. Today, only 3,000 Yunnan golden monkeys are left in the world, and nearly 100 are killed each year by hunters.
